Job Summary
The Formulation Chemist develops, tests, and optimizes specialty chemicals used in oilfield production and completions. This role supports new product development, application testing, troubleshooting, and scale-up across key chemistries such as corrosion inhibitors, H₂S scavengers, scale inhibitors, demulsifiers, and biocides. The position works closely with R&D, operations, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure products meet performance, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize formulations for oilfield production and completions chemicals. (corrosion inhibitors, H₂S scavengers, scale inhibitors, demulsifiers, biocides)
- Design and execute lab experiments to assess performance and scalability.
- Scale formulations from lab to manufacturing and support field validation.
- Conduct testing (stability, compatibility, rheology, titrations, performance tests).
- Document formulations, test data, and batch records accurately.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and support quality investigations.
- Provide technical support to operations and commercial teams; assist with field trials.
- Evaluate raw materials, alternative chemistries, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure regulatory compliance (EPA, OSHA, REACH) and support SDS/TDS/COA creation.
- Lead formulation projects from concept through commercialization, including pilot batches, field validation, and technology transfer to manufacturing.
- Assist with field trials, customer support, product demonstrations, and technical presentations.
- Lead troubleshooting and support root-cause investigations with QC and manufacturing.
- Contribute to lab procedures, testing standards, and process improvements.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related field.
- 3–7 years of formulation or application chemistry experience (Oil & Gas or specialty chemicals preferred).
- Hands-on experience with production or completions chemicals strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong physical chemistry and oilfield fluid fundamentals.
- Proficiency with lab instrumentation and analytical techniques.
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally.
Work Environment
- Laboratory setting with routine PPE use; ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Occasional travel to field sites, customers, or suppliers.
Salary : $60,000 - $90,000
