Lucky for you, we have an immediate opening on our Product team for a Geospatial Data Sourcing Specialist to unlock the mysteries of GIS data for cutting-edge products and systems. We need a tenacious data hunter who will stop at nothing to help Smarty find the hidden meaning and insight behind every location. Like Indiana Jones - but instead of one box, we’re searching for the entire world. If you enjoy the thrill of combing through location data (who doesn’t?), keep reading!
Who you are:
- 2-5 years of experience with GIS data, ideally in a tech environment
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Knowledge of geographic and international datasets
- Deep data sourcing skills in public and private domains
- Technical experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, Alteryx, and SQL preferred
- Experience translating large, messy datasets into structured formats
- Bonus: Comfortable working with APIs, data versioning, or integrating GIS data into customer-facing applications
- Bonus: Knowledge of and hands-on experience with databases
- Bonus: Programming experience in languages including Golang, Python, Java, SQL, etc.
- Bonus: Understanding of data governance and compliance standards
What you’ll do:
- Research, identify, and utilize various data sources to meet organizational objectives
- Perform validation and verification testing on the data
- Build, optimize and maintain data pipelines to process and structure geospatial data for internal use.
- Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting
- Extract and compile geocode data for use in new and existing product lines
- Collaborate with product managers to define data requirements for new features
- Work with engineering teams to uncover insights and deliver data that meets functional requirements
- Perform spatial analysis to support decision-making and product planning
- Ensure data quality, completeness, and consistency across systems
- May assist with custom data queries or visualizations to support internal use cases
- Participate in company cultural training initiatives, including Arbinger methodologies, and apply learned principles in your work and in your interactions with others
