Job Title: Plasma Operator – Steel ManufacturingJob Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Plasma Operator to operate CNC plasma cutting machines in our steel manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cutting and shaping steel plates and components according to blueprints and production specifications, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate CNC plasma cutting machines to cut steel and metal parts to specified dimensions.
- Load and unload raw material (steel plate/sheet) onto cutting tables using overhead cranes or forklifts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, and work orders to determine cutting requirements.
- Select appropriate settings, consumables (tips, electrodes), and gases for material type and thickness.
- Monitor cutting process and make necessary adjustments to machine parameters for quality results.
- Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy, edge quality, and overall compliance with specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning; report mechanical issues to maintenance team.
- Maintain accurate records of production and material usage.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe material handling practices.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of experience operating CNC plasma cutting machines, preferably in a steel or metal fabrication environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and part layouts.
- Basic knowledge of steel grades, thicknesses, and cutting characteristics.
- Comfortable using measurement tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.).
- Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts (certification preferred).
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CNC programming and nesting software (e.g., ProNest, SigmaNEST).
- Familiarity with oxy-fuel cutting, laser cutting, or other metal cutting processes.
- Experience working with large steel plates and structural steel components.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for CNC equipment.
Work Environment:
- Heavy industrial and steel fabrication environment.
- Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes, and loud noise; PPE required.
- Standing for extended periods and manual material handling involved.
