Annual salary range: $160,000-$175,000.

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Engineer/Architect with deep experience designing, developing, and optimizing scalable database solutions on AWS. This role is pivotal in driving the performance, integrity, and reliability of data systems across our full technology stack, from customer-facing applications to mission-critical internal operations, both agent and carrier oriented.

What You'll Do
- Architect and Develop: Design, implement, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and reliable database systems supporting SmartFinancial's full ecosystem, including marketplace, agent, and carrier platforms
- Optimize Performance: Develop and fine-tune advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, and database functions to ensure optimal responsiveness and reliability
- Build Data Infrastructure: Design and manage efficient data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and distribution across multiple applications using AWS services
- Monitor & Secure: Continuously monitor database health, troubleshoot performance issues, and implement proactive strategies for scalability, availability, and disaster recovery
- Ensure Integrity & Compliance: Uphold data security standards, enforce integrity and consistency, and align with compliance frameworks and organizational policies
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with engineering, product, analytics, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust, integrated database solutions that serve both internal and external stakeholders
- Mentor & Lead: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and architectural best practices to other engineers and teammates
- AWS Management: Optimize and maintain AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) instances, Redshift clusters, and other AWS data-related components
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 7 years of experience as a Database Engineer or Architect in data-intensive environments
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL (including replication, indexing, and performance tuning)
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift, from schema design to performance optimization
- Proven ability to design and operate AWS-based data pipelines (e.g., DMS, S3, Glue, Lambda, Kinesis)
- Strong command of AWS services including RDS, EC2, S3, and IAM
- Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and database design principles
- Proficiency in database security, backup, and recovery strategies
- Demonstrated success in collaborating across engineering teams to support multiple applications and business lines
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with MySQL or additional relational databases
- Familiarity with modern data warehousing tools or platforms beyond Redshift
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (AWS CloudFormation, Terraform)
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) applied to database environments
- AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Solutions Architect - Associate/Professional)
