Essential Skills & Competencies
- Able to work well in a team
- High school diploma
- Some basic electronics or technical training preferred, or equivalent work experience
- Familiar with using electronic measuring tools, soldering iron, other electrical diagnostic and repair tools
- Basic knowledge of electronic components, attributes, and circuit boards preferred
- Familiar with testing equipment, such as multimeters for inspection and troubleshooting preferred
- Good problem-solving skills and the able to do basic troubleshooting on electrical circuits
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet production deadlines
- Attention to detail, ensuring high-quality assembly and repair
- Familiarity with quality control standards and techniques
- Good verbal and written communication skills for collaboration within the team
- Good math and computer skills and familiar with common ERP use
Purpose of the Job
The Electronics Assembly Technician I is responsible for ensuring high-quality assembly, performing thorough performance inspections, troubleshooting issues, and repairing circuit boards. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of electronics, an eye for quality, and the ability to diagnose and resolve circuit board issues accurately and efficiently.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures while working and handling electronic components. Ensure that work is conducted safely and in accordance with relevant regulations and company policies. Use required PPE.
Electronic Assembly: Manually build electronic circuit boards, components, and or subassemblies following detailed standard work instructions, specifications, blueprints, and/or wiring diagrams. Attach components using hand tools and/or automated equipment, includes soldering, wiring, crimping, gluing, etc. Program, test, and verify performance of completed driver boards.
Quality Control: Conduct thorough visual inspections and performance tests on assembled circuit boards to verify compliance with specifications and quality requirements. Identify defects, such as soldering issues, component mis-placements, or electrical connectivity problems. Use preventative measures to protect against electro-static discharge (ESD).
Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with assembled circuit boards, including identifying the root causes of defects or malfunctions. Utilize technical knowledge, circuit diagrams, testing equipment, and hand and power tools to repair faulty boards.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of assembly processes, inspections, repairs, and any modifications made to circuit boards. Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
Process Improvement: Collaborate with electronics team, engineers, process and quality leaders to develop and implement improvements that enhance assembly quality, efficiency, and yield. Provide input on design for manufacturability (DFM) to prevent common assembly issues.
Team Collaboration: Support the electronics assembly team, engineers, final assembly team, and quality teams to communicate findings, discuss issues, and implement corrective actions. Assist in training and support to others when needed.
Inventory Management: Assist in managing component inventory, ensuring that required materials for assembly and repair are processed accurately when incoming, properly stored and available for use.
