Position Overview

Enloe Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Manager - GI Services to provide clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the Gastrointestinal (GI) Services Department. Reporting directly to the Director of Surgery Services, the Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of GI Services while ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, and financial performance.

This leadership role is ideal for a Registered Nurse with extensive GI/Endoscopy experience, proven supervisory expertise, and a passion for fostering a collaborative, patient-centered culture. The Nurse Manager serves as a key resource for physicians, staff, patients, and hospital leadership, driving continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and accrediting agency standards.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all GI Services clinical operations.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Monitor patient care quality indicators and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Promote best practices and adherence to clinical standards of care.
  • Support nursing staff in clinical decision-making and patient care delivery.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing and support staff.
  • Participate in direct patient care activities when operationally necessary.
  • Function as Charge Nurse as needed.

Operational Management

  • Direct daily departmental operations to ensure effective patient flow and service excellence.
  • Evaluate operational performance and develop strategies to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance department performance.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor departmental productivity and implement process improvements.
  • Maintain readiness for state, federal, and regulatory surveys.

Financial Management

  • Assist in the development and management of departmental budgets.
  • Monitor staffing levels, productivity targets, and resource utilization.
  • Identify opportunities for cost containment while maintaining quality patient care.
  • Make recommendations regarding equipment, staffing, and program growth.

Human Resources & Staff Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, and retain high-performing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
  • Promote employee engagement, professional growth, and job satisfaction.
  • Utilize progressive discipline processes when appropriate.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
  • Support continuing education and certification advancement opportunities.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • California Nurse Practice Act
  • Title 22 Regulations
  • Joint Commission Standards
  • CMS and other regulatory requirements
  • Analyze quality metrics and implement corrective action plans.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational performance improvement programs.

Patient & Physician Relations

  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and care teams.
  • Address patient care concerns and facilitate resolution of service issues.
  • Promote patient satisfaction and an exceptional care experience.
  • Build collaborative relationships with providers and multidisciplinary teams.


Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of cumulative GI/Endoscopy nursing experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory, leadership, or management experience within a GI, Endoscopy, Perioperative, or related clinical setting.

Licensure & Certifications

  • California RN License.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline.
  • Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN).
  • Two or more years of Critical Care nursing experience.
  • Previous experience managing budgets, staffing plans, and departmental operations.
  • Active membership in professional nursing organizations.
  • Experience with process improvement, accreditation readiness, and quality management initiatives.
