Position Overview

San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Facilities to lead and oversee all aspects of Plant Operations, Maintenance, Environmental Services (EVS), Grounds, Utilities, and Facility Compliance operations across the organization.

This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the hospitalโ€™s facilities and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations and life safety standards. The Director of Facilities will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, healthcare facilities management expertise, and extensive knowledge of hospital operations, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance programs, and facility infrastructure systems.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations Management

  • Lead and manage approximately 45 Full-Time Employees (FTEs) across:
  • Plant Operations
  • Maintenance
  • Environmental Services (EVS)
  • Grounds Operations
  • Utilities Management
  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for all facility-related functions
  • Develop departmental goals, operational strategies, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
  • Mentor, train, and evaluate departmental staff and supervisors


Facility & Plant Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of hospital facilities and infrastructure systems
  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of:
  • HVAC systems
  • Boiler systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Mechanical systems
  • Emergency power systems
  • Water and utility systems
  • Manage facility maintenance schedules and preventive maintenance programs
  • Coordinate repairs, inspections, and equipment servicing activities
  • Ensure hospital infrastructure supports continuous patient care operations


Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards including:
  • NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)
  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
  • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
  • CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services)
  • Joint Commission Standards
  • State and local regulatory requirements
  • Lead Life Safety and Environment of Care compliance initiatives
  • Maintain readiness for accreditation surveys and inspections
  • Oversee biohazard waste management and environmental safety programs
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness and disaster response plans


Environmental Services & Grounds Management

  • Oversee Environmental Services (EVS) operations to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment
  • Ensure proper infection prevention and environmental cleaning protocols are followed
  • Manage grounds operations and facility appearance standards
  • Coordinate snow removal, landscaping, waste disposal, and exterior maintenance activities


Project & Vendor Management

  • Supervise facility-related construction, renovation, and improvement projects
  • Manage contractor relationships and vendor performance
  • Review project budgets, timelines, and operational impact
  • Coordinate procurement of maintenance equipment and facility supplies
  • Monitor capital improvement projects and maintenance expenditures


Collaboration & Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and department managers to improve facility operations and organizational efficiency
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives related to facility growth and operational expansion
  • Support patient satisfaction and employee safety initiatives through effective facility management
  • Develop operational budgets and monitor departmental financial performance


Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelorโ€™s Degree required in one of the following areas:

  • Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Architecture
  • Business Administration
  • Facilities Management
  • Related field

Equivalent leadership experience may be considered based on qualifications.


Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience required
  • Previous healthcare or hospital facilities management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing large operational teams preferred
  • Experience overseeing facility maintenance, utilities, and environmental services operations preferred
