What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Small OKC Law Office?
We are a small Oklahoma City law office seeking an associate attorney to join our practice. Our primary focus is the defense of workers’ compensation claims on behalf of institutional employers and insurance carriers. We also represent a state regulatory board in administrative matters, assist select clients with financial transactions, and handle a limited amount of civil and business work each year.
We are not a general-practice firm that accepts every type of matter that comes through the door. Our work is focused, allowing a new attorney to develop a practical understanding of the practice relatively quickly. At the same time, every claim presents different facts, personalities, medical issues, and legal questions, which keeps the work from becoming routine.
The associate’s primary responsibility will be assisting with the daily defense of workers’ compensation claims. The position will include:
- Communicating with clients, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, and witnesses;
- Taking and defending depositions;
- Conducting legal research and preparing briefs and other written work;
- Interviewing clients and witnesses;
- Reviewing medical records and other evidence;
- Preparing cases for hearings and settlement discussions; and
- Appearing in court and before administrative tribunals.
No prior workers’ compensation or litigation experience is required. We provide hands-on training designed to introduce each part of the practice in manageable steps and at a pace commensurate with the attorney’s developing skills and experience. Our attorneys and staff work closely together, and matters are approached as a team rather than assigned without support.
The position includes a base salary, with attainable monthly bonus opportunities that will materially increase total compensation.
Applicants must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in Oklahoma. Travel outside the Oklahoma City metropolitan area is uncommon but may occasionally be required.
Interested applicants should submit a résumé and a brief cover letter.
