What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations & Business Development Intern position at SM Travel Company LLC?
Company Description:
SM Travel Co is a student-run travel and event planning company specializing in spring break, fall break, formals, and group trips for colleges and universities across the country. We design end-to-end experiences across 31 cities and 6 countries, serving 100 unique groups and 1,000 students and travelers. We handle everything — hotel blocks, venue sourcing, logistics, regional market analysis, and on-trip coordination — so student groups can focus on enjoying their trip at an affordable price. We work with fraternities, sororities, sports teams, large non-college groups, and student organizations nationwide. We're a fast-growing startup built by students, for students.
Role Description:
SM Travel Co is looking for a detail-oriented, organized student to join our operations team. You'll work directly under our Head of Operations and get exposure to the behind-the-scenes of running a real travel and events company — CRM management, vendor relationships, cash flow tracking, and client coordination. If you want to understand how a business actually runs, this is the role.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assisting with CRM management and keeping client and vendor records clean and up to date
- Supporting cash flow tracking and payment follow-ups
- Managing vendor contact lists and helping maintain partner relationships
- Coordinating logistics and client details across active trips
- Identifying and supporting new business development opportunities
- Optimizing current representative program
What We're Looking For:
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Interested in operations, business development, finance, or hospitality management
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets, CRM tools, and digital platforms
- Someone who takes ownership and doesn't need to be micromanaged
- Willing to put in 5-10 hours per week
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior at a college or university
- Eager to learn and get everything out of this experience that they can
- Willing to devote 5-10 hours per week for the upcoming fall semester
