SLR Consulting
West, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 4/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/25/2026
SLR International Corporation (SLR) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Technician to support landfill and landfill gas system construction projects as needed across Oregon.

As a CQA Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring that landfill construction activities adhere to project specifications and environmental regulations. Key responsibilities include monitoring and documenting construction activities, performing field testing of geosynthetics and soils, supporting environmental compliance and reporting, and assisting with water and soil sampling, groundwater monitoring, and other field-based environmental tasks on an hourly as needed basis.

Primary work will be conducted at active landfill sites, with potential assignments at former and active mine sites or other industrial facilities. This position is well-suited for individuals who are passionate about environmental protection, enjoy working outdoors in dynamic field conditions, and are committed to upholding high standards of quality and safety.

SLR on-site staff will provide on-the-job training for this hourly-as-needed opportunity, and we welcome candidates with a range of qualifications. Compensation will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s relevant experience. The CQA Technician role will be most active during the construction season, typically from March through October. Field assignments generally follow a 5-day schedule with 10-hour workdays, though 6-day workweeks may occasionally be required. Flexibility is essential, as work may sometimes be needed on weekends, holidays, or outside standard hours depending on site conditions.

This individual will be based in our Oregon office but is expected to undertake field assignments that may last several months in various regions. Occasional travel to neighboring states may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor landfill construction activities including earthwork, liner system installation (geomembrane, geosynthetics, clay), leachate collection systems, and landfill gas systems.
  • Document daily construction activities, material deliveries, contractor personnel/equipment, and site conditions using detailed field reports and photo logs.
  • Perform field inspections and testing (e.g., soil compaction testing, geosynthetics verification, pipe slope checks, elevations).
  • Ensure that construction materials and methods conform to project specifications, drawings, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate daily with site supervisors, contractors, design engineers, and project managers regarding field activities and issues.
  • Report deviations or non-conformances and assist with resolution under the direction of the CQA Manager.
  • Collect and label samples for lab testing as required.
  • Participate in progress meetings and assist in preparing project documentation.
  • Learn applicable environmental monitoring and compliance practices.
  • Observe safe work practices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Two-year college degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in construction or field services is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, managers, and clients.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in different regions across California
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project locations.
  • Experience using hand and power tools and light equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds
  • Track record of excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Able to work 10-hour days, starting at 7am and at times at 6am.
  • Ability to pass client-required drug screening.
  • Commitment to safe work practices including OSHA and MSHA compliance training. (provided by SLR)

Preferred (not Required But a Plus)

  • Familiarity with landfill design and construction practices, geosynthetics, and earthwork procedures.
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Training
  • 40-hour and annual OSHA HAZWOPER certification
  • MSHA certification
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and mobile data collection tools.

The hourly range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
