Summary
SLPT Automotive is searching for a Product Development Engineer to work closely with the global Pump team to develop new products, in both mechanical and mechatronic products. You will be part of the developing new products interfacing with customers to grow business in North America and Europe.
This is a key position that will work closely with a team of design engineering professionals and involves continuous interaction with sales, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance and shop floor production teams to assure a cohesive and cost-effective approach to high quality design developments and successful new product and product modifications.
The ideal candidate for this role enjoys engaging in program execution as well as organizational development. With a passion to drive projects to a quality outcome. Experience in the lifecycle of automotive component development and understanding is key. In this role, you will be expected to perform comfortably in a fast-paced setting.
Purpose
- Lead product design & development activities for assigned customer applications.
- Work out high value technical solutions to meet customer requirements and exceed customer expectations.
- Manage the customer systems and organization through the APQP process to ensure successful product launches.
- Represent SLPT’s values, quality standards and responsiveness to the customer (SLPT’s face to the customer).
- Generate the appropriate level of customer involvement to understand technical trends and tendencies for future developments and to allow for anticipation of future needs at the OEM’s.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Daily communication with the customer and the involved SLPT engineering and project support functions in North America and/or globally (depending on program).
- Frequent and regular visits to the customers depending on project status.
- General expectations: once per week for local customers.
- Work with the customer to fully understand the product requirements and translate into product specifications.
- Find creative technical solutions that meet external and internal customer requirements.
- Lead Development activities, analyze test results, propose design changes and recommendations.
- Document and present SLPT Technology, Test and Development results, design and project status to the customer.
- Support of customer testing and validation on-site, as required.
- Timely release of complete and accurate design packages, including all assembly, sub-assembly and component models, drawings and specifications.
- Prepare and support preparation of all relevant APQP documents (Design Release package, Tolerance stack-ups, Drawings, Specifications, FMEA’s, DVP&R, Prototype Control Plans, Test reports …)
- Manage the customer specific EDI system to ensure proper data interchange in particular CAD data exchange in the customer defined format.
- Manage changes through the customer systems in new product developments and for launched product (product and process changes).
- Support continuous improvement, including supplier and design VAVE of SLPT products.
- Meet customer timing and due-date requirements.
- Support sales and marketing activities to obtain new business.
- Report out on project status to the supervisor on a weekly basis (or on demand).
- Other duties as assigned within the capabilities of the employee, if required to support SLPT business.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Mechatronic).
- NX and CATIA experience.
- Familiar with GD&T.
Preferred Profile:
- 3 years of experience in automotive/powertrain product engineering.
- Experience in application work with automotive OEMs.
- Experience with customer PDM/PLM systems.
- Experience in applying APQP in the customer systems.
- Experience in automotive hydraulic systems: engine oil pump/vacuum pump/transmission pump technology.
- Experience with electric pump systems.
Salary : $90,000 - $100,000
