Summary
Incumbent is responsible for the total maintenance of SLPT facility which includes the maintenance of the building, grounds, equipment, and plant facilities. Key focus is on direction of maintenance resources, uptime of equipment, presentation of the facility, and safety of maintenance resources including contractors.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent is responsible for the SLPT Maintenance Department and the Tool Room. All aspects of these areas are included in the scope of responsibility. This includes adherence to SLPT policies and standards and coordination of programs and activities including employee placement, orientation, safety, quality, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and environmental training. Lead employees in the maintenance and tool room areas are key employees and are responsible for proactive oversight and compliance for these areas. Development of these lead positions by the Maintenance Supervisor is expected for leadership, quality tools, and adherence to required SLPT safety and quality standards.
The scope of responsibility includes staffing plans, responsibility for cost drivers related to the departments assigned and operations, performance reviews, and administering corrective action when non-compliances occur. The incumbent must have strong oral and written communication skills, as this position has a very high interaction level with all operational interfaces in the plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises maintenance and tool room employees. Assigns, directs, and coordinates work to meet established safety, quality, housekeeping standards and output requirements of these two areas.
- Orients, develops, and evaluates subordinates. Keeps in constant communication with team to continuously empower and improve performance.
- Ensures the safety of all employees by establishing and monitoring safety rules and regulations, which pertain to equipment and the work environment. Keeps in compliance with and abreast of all OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Recommends and establishes maintenance and tool room processes and procedures to achieve maximum utilization and efficiency of employees and equipment.
- Directly responsible for coordination management of the effective plant preventive maintenance program within the confines of an annual budget. This includes all heating, air conditioning, as well as maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Primary goal is safe work and meeting plant equipment uptime goal.
- Works with key internal customers – production, product development, and MFG Engineering - to ensure needs are met such as on-time completion of projects.
- Confers with management to establish safety, quality, housekeeping, machine uptime, tool room output, and cost standards.
- Collaborates with MFG Engineering and Production, develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate waste and operating problems.
- Incumbent may be assigned to champion special projects and/or studies, and will participate in operational cross-functional teams such as APQP, Lean MFG Projects, and quality problem solving teams.
- Coordinates safe moves, repairs, and removal of equipment and utilities within the building
- Ensures safe supervision and coordinates contracts with all outside contractors. Responsible for all safety & related items relating to contractors and maintenance.
- Coordinates prescribed preventative maintenance plans on machinery and the building or grounds, as required. Key coordination activities are centered around plant shutdowns.
- Works with peers to ensure all policies and procedures are applied fairly and consistently throughout the organization.
- Administers fair and consistent corrective action when necessary.
- Addresses performance and attitude deficiencies in a timely and consistent basis.
- Deals with concerns in a timely fashion.
- Maintains effective relationships within the department and all levels of the organization.
- Projects a positive attitude and professionalism.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
- Strong Communication, Problem Solving, and People Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitudes, and a working knowledge of electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Excellent trouble shooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to define problems, and resolve them quickly.
- Familiar with local building codes and OSHA regulations.
- Familiar with all current health and safety regulations.
- Requires strong supervisory skills, coupled with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and or situations.
- Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the plant.
