About the Firm
Slovin & Council is a creditors’ rights and collection law firm based in downtown Cincinnati. We represent creditors, debt buyers, lenders, and commercial businesses in consumer and commercial collection matters across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Our team handles a high volume of matters from pre-suit through judgment and post-judgment, in court and in arbitration, and we hold ourselves to strong compliance standards.
The Role
We are looking for an associate attorney to join our litigation team. You’ll carry your own caseload, appear in court often, and get real courtroom and motion experience early in your career. You’ll work directly with the firm’s partners and our experienced support staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage a docket of consumer and commercial collection cases from filing through resolution
- Draft complaints, motions, briefs, discovery, and responses to counterclaims
- Appear at hearings, pretrials, and trials in municipal, county, and common pleas courts, as well as in Kentucky and Indiana courts
- Handle matters in arbitration (including AAA and JAMS)
- Handle cases involving opposing counsel, legal aid organizations, and self-represented parties
- Negotiate and draft settlement agreements and releases
- Handle post-judgment work, including garnishments, judgment liens, and judgment renewals
- Make sure firm practices comply with the FDCPA, FCRA, state consumer protection laws, and industry standards
Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing in Ohio (licensure in Kentucky or Indiana, or willingness to obtain it, is a strong plus)
- 0–3 years of litigation experience; recent graduates are welcome to apply
- Experience with collections, creditors’ rights, or the FDCPA is preferred but not required
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Comfortable in the courtroom and able to manage a high-volume caseload
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for court appearances
