What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Operations and Projects Coordinator position at Slifka Center For Jewish Life at Yale?
Development Operations and Projects Coordinator (Full-Time or Part-Time)
We're looking for a candidate who enjoys creating clarity out of complexity, a self-starter who naturally organizes projects, anticipates what needs to happen next, and takes satisfaction in helping an entire team succeed.
The Development Operations Coordinator serves as the operational backbone of our Development department, helping colleagues stay organized, connected, and moving forward. You'll coordinate projects, build systems, improve processes, and ensure important work doesn't fall through the cracks. Working across Development as well as with colleagues in Slifka Center’s other departments, you'll help transform ideas into action and keep multiple initiatives moving simultaneously.
This position is ideal for someone who is proactive, resourceful, intellectually curious, and enjoys solving problems. Prior experience in the fundraising world is welcome but not required. We are more interested in exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, initiative, and a collaborative mindset. Candidates can be early in their career; in the process of making a professional transition; returning to the workforce; or looking to apply their organizational talents in a mission-driven environment.
This is an hourly position and may be filled on either a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the experience and availability of the selected candidate.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the operational hub of the Development team by creating systems, coordinating projects, and ensuring work advances smoothly from the Development department to Slifka Center’s other departments and external partners.
- Keep multiple initiatives moving forward by tracking deadlines, following up on commitments, and ensuring smooth handoffs.
- Plan and execute donor events, alumni programs, reunions, Board Of Trustees activities, and other engagement opportunities, on- and off-campus.
- Support donor communications, gift processing, stewardship, database management, reporting, and other Development operations.
- Improve workflows and thoughtfully integrate new technologies, including AI tools, to make the team more efficient and effective.
- Prepare reports, presentations, research briefs, and correspondence for staff and trustees.
- Provide dependable operational support while exercising exceptional professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred plus 2-4 years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated success coordinating multiple projects, managing competing priorities, and keeping work organized in a busy professional environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft 365 applications. Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is helpful.
- Comfort learning and using new technology, including AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar platforms, to improve productivity and workflow while exercising sound judgment and protecting confidential information.
- Experience with CRM or database systems is helpful. Experience with fundraising databases is a plus, but not required. Willingness to learn Raiser's Edge is essential, and training will be provided.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, integrity, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
- A practical, flexible approach to solving problems, with the ability to adapt as priorities evolve.
- A strong work ethic, personal accountability, and the ability to move projects forward with appropriate independence.
What You'll Bring
- Initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues across departments and with donors, alumni, parents, students, trustees, and campus partners.
- Energy and ability to work in a team, as well as occasionally independently and with limited guidance.
- Generous spirit, small ego, and satisfaction in helping others succeed.
- Interest in fundraising, philanthropy, or nonprofit management.
- Flexibility to work on occasional evenings and weekends (approximately 15 days annually).
- Appreciation for higher education as well as Slifka Center's mission. An interest in engaging with Jewish life and culture.
What You'll Receive
- Competitive nonprofit salary of $54,000–$65,000 (full-time equivalent), commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including 403(b) retirement matching, medical, dental, vision, family leave, and pet insurance.
- Flexible hybrid work environment (possibility for full remote work during parts of the summer).
- Mentorship from experienced Development professionals committed to your growth.
- Broad exposure to nonprofit leadership, fundraising operations, donor relations, events, communications, finance, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Opportunities to develop project management, operations, technology, and leadership skills that are valuable across the nonprofit, higher education, and private sectors.
