As a Director of Underwriting, you’ll lead underwriting strategy, execution, and team performance to drive profitability and growth. You’ll partner cross‑functionally to ensure strong risk selection, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
Underwriting Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to support profitability and market competitiveness
- Oversee underwriting processes to ensure sound risk assessment and adherence to company and regulatory standards
- Partner with Strategic Planning to implement underwriting and product changes within systems
- Monitor underwriting performance, including KPIs, profitability, and portfolio results
- Provide insights and strategic recommendations to leadership
- Collaborate across departments to align underwriting with broader business goals
- Lead, coach, and develop underwriting team members, driving performance and engagement
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence
- Provide regular feedback and support professional growth opportunities
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting quality and operational efficiency through data analysis
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, legislation, and industry trends
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7 years of homeowners P&C underwriting experience
- 3 years of leadership experience managing performance and setting team goals
- Experience working directly for an insurance carrier
- Strong knowledge of Florida insurance laws and regulatory requirements
- Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
- Effective leadership with the ability to motivate and develop teams
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills
- Clear communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
