What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pie it Forward Virtual Volunteer position at Slice Out Hunger?
Slice Out Hunger is a volunteer-driven nonprofit that has raised over $2M to fund hunger & disaster relief efforts around the US since 2009. The founding principle was simple use food donated by independent pizzerias to raise money for local hunger relief organizations. We started with a $1 Pizza Party that featured a handful of pizzerias and raised about $500. Ten years later, our 2019 event raised $75,000 for Citymeals on Wheels in NYC.
Our organization thrives on fast mobilization and that has allowed us to spring into action when help is needed. We launched Slice Out Special to raise money for No Kid Hungry, Toppings For Texas to fund the Houston food bank after Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and again in late winter of 2021 during the severe winter storms, and Pizza Across America to assist homeless shelters in the cold winter months. In March 2020, we teamed up with Slice and Pizza to the Polls to create Pizza Vs Pandemic, our campaign to send pizza to frontline healthcare workers and first responders across the country. The campaign raised over $250k in its first two weeks.

Over 75,000 tourists, locals, pizza lovers, and pizza professionals have since attended excursions to significant New York pizzerias with the company. Food tours are fun ways to experience a city, but treating food as entertainment is a luxury that too many people cannot afford. Slice Out Hunger became a way to harness the momentum of our collective pizza obsession to effectively support those who have trouble meeting their own basic food needs.

Slice Out Hunger, the nation’s foremost pizza nonprofit, needs the help of virtual volunteers like you with our primary ongoing initiative to feed people experiencing food insecurity, Pie it Forward!
What?
Pie it Forward is an ongoing project that is designed to get pizza to the nation’s food insecure by setting up deliveries to soup kitchens, food banks, free meal programs, shelters, and other hunger relief organizations. As a virtual volunteer, you would be assigned hunger relief organizations to contact by phone & email so you can work with them on the logistics of what day and time will be best for a delivery.
When?
This is an ongoing year-round project and we'd love your help during any timeframes that you're available. If you have 2-5 hours of weekday daytime availability on a weekly basis (preferably spread out in 20ish minute increments), you're perfect for this project!
For new volunteers, we offer onboarding sessions to get you up to speed on making calls and moving requests through our project management system. We'll work with you to schedule an onboarding session that works for you.
Who can volunteer?
They welcome all volunteers 18 years or older located in the US. This is a virtual project so all you need is access to a phone and computer!
Where?
Since this is a virtual project, it can be done from your home, your favorite coffee shop, the park at the end of your block, or anywhere! So long as you have access to a phone, computer, and WIFI, you’re all set!
