What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Assistant Teacher position at Sleepy Hollow Preschool?
Sleepy Hollow Preschool in Annandale, Virginia is seeking a part-time assistant teacher for our program beginning in Fall 2026, for the 2026-2027 school year. The assistant teacher assists classrooms of children aged 2-5. Sleepy Hollow is a play-based cooperative preschool. We believe that children learn best through play including: hands-on learning, creating and exploring, and imaginative activities. Our teachers work to foster children’s learning through these avenues. The ideal candidate is a team player, flexible, caring, dependable, and organized, who brings positive energy to school every day.
Responsibilities include supporting lead teachers in implementing a hands-on curriculum, supporting classes as needs arise during the day, interacting positively with children, instructing and directing parents in the performance of their volunteer roles, and having a strong commitment to children learning through play.
The applicant must be knowledgeable about early childhood development, including social, emotional, language and cognitive stages, be able to support children in growing self-esteem, and demonstrate respectful interactions while working with students, parents and co-workers. Filling every day with adventures and fun for children is our priority! Previous experience working at a preschool or daycare center is preferred.
This is a part-time position, and school runs half a day. Hours are 8:30am - 2:00pm on Tuesdays, and 8:30am - 12:45pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays .
