What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Paint Prep Technician position at Sleepy Hollow Auto Group, Inc.?
We are seeking a detail-oriented, high-caliber Paint Prepper and Finisher who takes pride in delivering a flawless final finish. In this role, you are not simply preparing vehicles for the paint booth — you are ensuring every vehicle that leaves our shop reflects the highest standard of craftsmanship. You will own the critical transition from bodywork to paint, as well as the post-paint refinement process that separates an exceptional result from an average one.
Key Responsibilities
Precision Preparation Sand, mask, and tape vehicles with exacting accuracy to prevent overspray and ensure clean, defined edges. Apply primer and perform expert block sanding to achieve a perfectly level surface ready for finish coat application.
Post-Paint Refinement Utilize progressive wet sanding grits to eliminate nibs, texture, and orange peel from fresh clearcoat. Execute a multi-stage buffing and polishing process to achieve a swirl-free, high-gloss factory-quality finish. Ensure all compound residue is thoroughly removed from cracks, emblems, and door jambs prior to delivery.
Shop Stewardship & Maintenance Maintain a clean room standard work environment — a contaminated prep bay directly compromises paint quality. Clean and maintain all spray guns, DA sanders, buffers, and vacuum systems on a daily basis. Properly dispose of all hazardous materials and maintain an organized mixing room at all times.
Requirements Prior experience is not required — we provide comprehensive on-the-job training for the right candidate. The ideal applicant understands that preparation and environmental cleanliness account for the majority of a quality paint result, possesses strong attention to detail, and has the physical stamina to handle the demands of buffing large panels and standing for extended shifts.
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
