Position Summary

The Sleep Technician is responsible for conducting home sleep test (HST) instruction, CPAP setup appointments, PAP therapy education, mask fittings, compliance monitoring, and ongoing patient support. This position plays a critical role in helping patients successfully begin and maintain sleep therapy while providing exceptional customer service and ensuring compliance with physician orders, insurance requirements, and company policies.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Educate patients on obstructive sleep apnea and prescribed PAP therapy.
  • Perform CPAP, APAP, and BiPAP equipment setups according to physician orders.
  • Instruct patients on proper equipment operation, cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct mask fittings to ensure proper comfort and seal.
  • Perform Home Sleep Test (HST) instruction and equipment dispensing.
  • Retrieve and review HST equipment upon return.
  • Monitor therapy compliance and assist patients experiencing therapy difficulties.
  • Provide ongoing education to improve therapy adherence and patient outcomes.

Clinical Documentation

  • Document all patient interactions accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
  • Verify physician orders and required documentation prior to equipment setup.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation.
  • Ensure documentation meets payer and accreditation standards.

Customer Service

  • Deliver compassionate, professional service during every patient interaction.
  • Answer patient questions regarding therapy, equipment, and supplies.
  • Resolve patient concerns promptly or escalate when appropriate.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Equipment & Inventory

  • Prepare PAP equipment and supplies for patient setups.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain reusable equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify management of shortages.
  • Assist with equipment tracking and returns.

Compliance & Quality

  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance guidelines and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure all work complies with HIPAA, OSHA, Medicare, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, billing staff, scheduling, and customer service.
  • Assist other departments as needed to ensure efficient patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and ongoing training.


Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
