Position Summary:
We are seeking a responsible, safety-minded School Bus Driver who will ensure our students’ transportation is secure, timely, and welcoming. This role is more than just driving—it’s about building trust with families, creating a safe and respectful bus environment, and being a positive first and last point of contact for students each day.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate a school bus along assigned morning and afternoon routes, including:
- school-related events and field trips.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of students during loading, transit, and unloading, with special attention to younger elementary students.
- Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain student order on the bus, following and reinforcing the Sledge Institute Student Code of Conduct.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff, serving as a welcoming presence in the school community.
- Keep accurate records, including mileage logs, safety inspection checklists, and incident reports.
- Report any maintenance needs, delays, or safety concerns promptly to the Director of Operations.
- Participate in any required safety training, staff meetings, and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Clean driving record and at least 1-2 years’ experience operating large vehicles (school bus experience preferred).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and DOT physical.
- Strong communication skills and a calm, professional demeanor.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to student safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a school bus driver or in a role transporting children.
- Knowledge of Vance, Granville, and Warren County roads and communities.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
Working Conditions:
- Split shift schedule (early mornings and afternoons), with occasional evenings or extended trips for school activities.
- Regular exposure to weather conditions while loading/unloading students.
- Frequent interaction with children, families, and school staff.
Compensation:
$20 - 21 per hour
Job Type: Part-time
