Position Overview

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Engineering Division at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Science and Engineering Associate to develop, characterize, integrate, and maintain state of the art integrated timing systems in support of complex scientific and research programs. This role reports into the Precision Timing and Synchronization Group in the Laser Engineering Department.

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) is the world's first hard X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) and operates as a user facility for a global community of scientists, providing ultrashort, ultra-bright pulses of X-rays to seven experimental instruments focused on specific areas of science. Femtosecond synchronization and stability of x-ray to laser coordination are an integral part of many of these experiments, and the Precision Timing and Synchronization Group is responsible for deploying and supporting cutting-edge timing systems for groundbreaking scientific research at LCLS.

The Precision Timing and Synchronization Group also supports other laser-timing requirements at SLAC including the photoinjector lasers for the LCLS accelerator, accelerator test facilities such as Ultrafast Electron Diffraction (UED), the Facility for Advanced Accelerator Experimental Tests (FACET), and the Next Linear Collider Test Accelerator (NLCTA), and other research programs such as High Energy Density (HED) science, and the PULSE and SIMES Stanford independent laboratories at SLAC.

This position will report to the Group Leader for the Precision Timing and Synchronization in Laser Engineering. Members of this group are responsible for the design, development, testing, and facility integration of timing systems coupled to accelerators and LCLS experiments.

SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park, CA.
