Classroom Educator

Job Summary

• Teachers at Skyuka Hall are expected to have a knowledge of individualized and differentiated instruction, be flexible, implement the use of technology, be collaborative and knowledgeable of students with learning differences and their development, and be lifelong learners.  Teachers are ten-month employees and report directly to the division head.  

Essential Expectations

• Partner with the school lead to write student individualized learning plans and assess, modify, and document progression throughout the year 
• Build quality relationships with students and maintain a mission-based classroom environment
• Ensure comprehensive and effective classroom management utilizing Blackbaud as necessary  
• Prepare materials and classrooms for intentional learning, utilizing school school-allocated planning time for student planning
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
• Plan and conduct engaging activities for a balanced and individualized program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
• Communicate all plan objectives clearly to all students and parents, including, but not limited to, progress made, and help needed; communication with parents/guardians should take place weekly
• Assign, grade, evaluate, and give immediate feedback for classwork and homework (post in Blackbaud as necessary)
• Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, etc., when any behavioral or academic issue arises, and document happenings
• Contact the division head immediately concerning any student abuse or neglect
• Meet with parents/guardians intermittently to review the student’s progress
• Prepare current substitute folders for at least five days of absence  
• Work with the school lead to plan engaging field trips that are purposeful and applicable to the course study
• Adhere to and enforce school policy, including but not limited to policies and rules that govern students, and perform duties as expected
• Maintain professional appearance and code of conduct
• Attend school meetings and development opportunities to improve professional competence
• Foster positive relationships across the school and positively contribute to the overall health and wellness of the school and its stakeholders 
• Participate in school-wide events
• Other tasks as assigned by the head of school 

Common Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Experience in an independent school, specifically LD schools, preferred
• Demonstrate a mastery of current LD pedagogy
• Love and appreciation for students with learning differences
• Flexibility
• Outstanding leadership and communication skills (written and oral)
• Excellent organizational and presentation skills
• Technologically savvy
• Proven success at working collaboratively 
• Passionate about field(s) of study
