POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructional coaches are an integral part of the leadership team of middle or high school, along with principals, counselors, teachers, media specialists and other support staff. The instructional coach is primarily responsible for providing school-wide instructional leadership by positively impacting student achievement and professional learning through coaching and demonstrating best instructional practice. The instructional coach maintains professional relationships with staff, administrators and students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess or qualify for a VA collegiate professional license with an endorsement in Secondary Education and ESL (an ESL endorsement is preferred but not required).
  2. Minimum of 5 years of successful secondary classroom teaching experience, including teaching linguistically diverse students.
  3. Demonstrated ability to transfer scientifically-based researched instructional strategies, including strategies to increase language production into classroom instruction
  4. Strong planning and organizations skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  5. Working knowledge of assigned 6-12 SOL content 
  6. Experience collecting, visualizing, and acting on student formative assessment data to alter instruction and student learning outcomes
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of instruction and curriculum development, current theory, instructional  practices, and various assessment strategies
  8. Experience working with diverse learning needs.
  9. Proficiency with Google Suite, email, and information system applications.
  10. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using
  11. Proficiency in business English: spelling, grammar, and spoken language.
  12. Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, co-workers, and the community.
  13. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  14. Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks Models non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity, and individual beliefs of others.
  15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  16. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
  17. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments to improve instructional practices

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Effectively uses the HCPS coaching model
  2. Supports teachers in the implementation of school and division level initiatives
  3. Collaborates with principals and the Coordinator of Instruction to determine instructional support needs  (including providing intervention if needed)
  4. Works with administrators and teachers to interpret student data and instructional needs
  5. Supports teachers growth through: 
    1. Co-Planning
    2. Co-Teaching
    3. Micro Modeling lessons
    4. Analyzing student data
    5. Observing
    6. Providing feedback
  6. Works with principal to plan and provide staff development based on school need
  7. Responds to telephone, email, in person requests 
  8. Serves as a role model by developing and effectively maintaining professional boundaries with staff and students
  9. Serves as a role model for others as an educational leader by demonstrating good attendance, punctuality, appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior
  10. Models professional, moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all  interactions, including non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  11. Participate in professional development of self and others, including school and division staff development, some of which occurs during the summer 
  12. Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials and facilities.
  13. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies and skills up-to-date.
  14. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  15. Actively participates in and attends all required  meetings
  16. Maintains confidentiality in all matters
  17. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  18. Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the Principal 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members.  Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members and students is required.  Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative personnel.

Salary : $54,789 - $76,716
