Community & Character Coach
AZ Compass Elementary & AZ Compass Prep | K–12 Campus, North Chandler
AZ Compass Elementary and AZ Compass Prep are seeking a dynamic change agent to serve as our Community & Character Coach. As a boutique-style campus, we are small by design and strong in impact, with a focus on the 3 As: Academics, Arts, and Athletics.
This role is central to shaping a positive, structured, and student-centered culture. The Community & Character Coach leads efforts that build student leadership, strengthen character, and ensure students remain engaged, accountable, and connected to the school community.
You will work closely with students who need additional guidance in behavior, decision-making, and self-management. Through structured reflection, goal-setting, and skill-building, you will help students reset, re-engage, and return to learning ready to succeed.
Position Overview
The Community & Character Coach drives school culture through leadership development, student support systems, and intentional programming. This role blends proactive culture-building with targeted student interventions to support both individual growth and campus-wide expectations.
This position plays a key role in implementing the Leader in Me frmework ensuring students build habits of leadership, accountability, and personal responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
1. School Culture & Leadership Development
- Lead the implementation of Leader in Me practices across the campus
- Teach and reinforce leadership habits, goal setting, and student ownership
- Develop student leadership groups, peer mentors, and student ambassadors
- Model and promote a culture of respect, accountability, and excellence
- Provide direct instruction and coaching on character, habits, and leadership skills
2. Student Support & Behavioral Development
- Provide structured support for students who need time, guidance, and coaching to reflect and reset before returning to class
- Facilitate goal-setting conversations that help students take ownership of their actions and next steps
- Implement restorative practices that focus on accountability and repairing harm
- Monitor student progress and maintain clear documentation of interventions and outcomes
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure students transition back to class successfully and stay on track
3. Student Engagement & School Traditions
- Increase student participation in clubs, activities, and leadership opportunities
- Design and lead school-wide events that build pride, connection, and identity
- Support student-led initiatives such as service projects and leadership councils
- Work with staff to align activities with student interests and school values
4. Attendance & Academic Connection
- Track and respond to patterns in attendance and engagement
- Build systems that re-engage students who are disconnected from learning
- Partner with staff to support students whose behavior impacts academic progress
- Create systems that help students stay accountable for both behavior and academics
5. Collaboration & Community Building
- Serve as a consistent point of connection between students, staff, and families
- Communicate clearly with families regarding student progress and growth
- Support teachers with strategies for behavior, engagement, and classroom culture
- Lead or support family workshops focused on student success and character development
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong presence with the ability to build trust and hold students accountable
- Experience working with student behavior, mentoring, or school culture initiatives
- Deep understanding of positive behavior supports and restorative practices
- Ability to manage structured environments that support student reflection and growth
- Skilled in de-escalation, coaching, and conflict resolution
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; 2–4 years in an educational setting preferred
- Classroom experience preferred; leadership experience is a plus
- Fingerprint Clearance Card Required
