The Senior Accountant in construction manages and oversees the financial operations of projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting. Key roles include collaborating with project managers, ensuring compliance with industry standards, analyzing financial data, and sometimes supervising junior staff. Responsibilities also involve project setup, generating invoices, preparing unbilled sales reports, and implementing financial controls. The ideal candidate will have substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting and budgeting, and customer billing. They will be organized and approach each issue with an analytical mindset.
Responsibilities
Job Cost Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate job cost records across multiple active construction projects.
- Track and reconcile project budgets, commitments, change orders, and actuals.
- Collaborate with project managers to review job costing reports and forecast project performance.
- Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and support revenue recognition per GAAP.
Systems & Software
- Use Sage Intacct for general ledger, AP/AR, project accounting, and financial reporting.
- Integrate and reconcile financial data between Sage Intacct and Procore.
- Ensure timely and accurate project billing, subcontractor payments, and retention tracking.
COI Management
- Track and maintain vendor and subcontractor COIs, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with insurance brokers and vendors to update expired or insufficient COIs.
- Enforce insurance compliance policies prior to releasing payments or approving site access.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and subcontractor pay applications with proper job costing and approvals.
- Manage lien waivers, retainage, and payment releases in alignment with contract terms.
- Assist with owner billing, collections, and AR aging management.
Month-End & Compliance
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Support annual audits, internal controls, and compliance with accounting policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits, insurance reviews, and regulatory filings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in construction accounting or project-based accounting.
- Proficiency with Sage Intacct and Procore is required.
- Experience with COI tracking and vendor compliance is required.
- Knowledge of construction billing, lien waivers, AIA forms, and job costing practices.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to work with integrated construction software.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Adaptability in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate with field and office teams.
Salary : $75,000 - $100,000
