Overview

The DSP is responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, and fostering a supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism and dementia.
- Monitor clients’ vital signs and overall health status, reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Implement care plans tailored to each individual’s needs while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
- Ensure a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties and maintaining hygiene standards.
- Assist with medication administration as per prescribed guidelines.
- Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for transferring clients safely when necessary.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care and support.
Skills
- First aid and CPR certification are essential for ensuring client safety.
- Experience in group homes or assisted living settings is highly desirable.
- Strong patient observation skills to detect changes in client behavior or health status.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility needs.
- Familiarity with memory care techniques and Alzheimer’s care practices is beneficial.
- Knowledge of caregiving principles, home health practices, and hospice care is advantageous.
- Experience working with people with disabilities, including those requiring long-term care support.
