Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver with Class B and/or C with S endorsements to join our transportation team.
In this vital role, you will operate several types of commercial school bus vehicles, including large and small school buses, small transit buses, and 14-passenger vans, to ensure safe and reliable transportation for passengers of all school ages.
Your primary focus will be providing time sensitive transportation services, delivering exceptional customer service while adhering to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with all state and local driving laws.
- Transport passengers—including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding, disembarking, and provide wheelchair assistance as needed.
- Follow traffic laws diligently, respond quickly to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures when necessary.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in optimal condition; report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and safety checks in compliance with transportation safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, colleagues, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual skills to ensure smooth operations.
- Adhere to school policies regarding student discipline and behavior management during transit routes.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations using established emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills by addressing passenger needs professionally and courteously.
- Handle heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance while maintaining safety standards.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., S endorsement for school age passengers).
- Proven experience driving buses or similar commercial vehicles; experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels.
- Certification in first aid and CPR; ability to respond effectively during emergencies.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Familiarity with childcare protocols, student discipline policies, and behavior management techniques.
- Demonstrated defensive driving skills and quick response capabilities to traffic changes or hazards.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures specific to transportation settings.
