Job Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides support to one or more students with disabilities, enabling them to receive greater benefit form the District's instructional program.


Organizational Relationship:
The Special Education Paraprofessional reports directly to the Building Administration, receiving guidance from the classroom Teacher, Special Education Teacher, and/or Related Services Professionals.


Qualifications:

  • Illinois State Board of Education Professional Licensure, required
    • PEL, preferred
    • SUB or ELS PARA, required
  • Ability to visually supervise students, assess situations for safety concerns
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions regarding the safety and welfare of students
  • Ability to lift and position students weighing up to 50 pounds using proper 1-person lift techniques
  • Ability to lift and position students weighing more than 50 pounds using proper 2-person lift techniques
  • Ability to participate in and appy District-approved behavior management procedures and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training, including student physical restraints as needed
  • Ability to speak, write, read and understand English

Salary and Benefits:
Salary established by the Board of Education and PSRP agreement. For more information about new hire pay and benefits, click here.


The hourly rate of pay for 2026-27 is $24.17.


Paraprofessionals work 7.5 hours per day (7.0 paid hours and 0.5 unpaid lunch). The work year includes 180 days plus 10 paid holidays for a total of 190 paid days (1,330 paid hours per year).

The Board will pay 100% of the premium cost of Employee only HMO coverage and 90% of Employee only PPO coverage.


The Board will pay 70% of the HMO premium for Employee Spouse, Employee Child, or Family coverage. If an employee chooses a PPO plan for any dependent coverage levels, the Board will contribute an amount equal to 70% of the HMO Family premium, and the employee will pay the remaining difference.
