About the Role:
Assist providers with the examination and treatment of patients, following established standards and practices as directed by the physician and/or physician assistant.
Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, keep patient flow running smoothly, and escort patients to the discharge counter
- Obtain patient history, assess/triage patients, measure vital signs, and record information in the chart
- Explain procedures and prepare patients and exam rooms
- Position instruments and equipment and hand them to the provider; clean and sterilize equipment after use
- Use proper safety techniques and disposal measures
- Keep exam rooms stocked with supplies
- Assist the provider with procedures and wound care as directed
- Perform dosage calculations for medications
- Remove sutures and change sterile and non-sterile dressings
- Complete medical charts, including services, test results, and supplies used
- Make patient call-backs, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments
- Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for supplies
- Perform quality checks on medical equipment
- Assist registration staff with clerical duties
- Attend and participate in all-staff meetings
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program
- CPR certification
- Basic computer skills; electronic medical record experience preferred
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, as well as read and write medical terminology
- Strong communication, customer service, organization, and time-management skills
- Preferably two years of medical assisting experience
- Ability to transport patients by wheelchair and stand for long periods while assisting in surgery
Pay: $25-$35 per hour
