Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Electrical Estimator role based in Kansas City, MO. The Electrical Estimator will review plans, specifications, and project documents to prepare accurate material and labor takeoffs, cost estimates, and competitive bids for commercial and industrial electrical and low-voltage projects. Daily responsibilities include analyzing drawings, identifying scope, requesting and reviewing vendor and subcontractor quotations, and developing detailed proposals in coordination with project managers and company leadership. The role will collaborate with operations and field teams to validate assumptions, support value engineering options, and assist with budgeting, change orders, and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle. The Electrical Estimator will maintain current knowledge of industry pricing, codes, and standards while building strong relationships with clients, vendors, and partners to support Skillset Electric’s reputation for dependable, high-quality work.
Qualifications
- Strong electrical estimating skills, including quantity takeoffs, labor and material pricing, and bid preparation for commercial and industrial projects.
- Knowledge of cost control and project budgeting, including analyzing costs, supporting value engineering, and assisting with change orders.
- Experience in electrical contracting, including familiarity with construction processes, schedules, and coordination with general contractors and trades.
- Solid understanding of electricity and electrical systems, including codes, standards, and typical commercial installations.
- Background in electrical engineering or equivalent technical training, education, or field experience supporting accurate estimates and constructability review.
- Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with construction management software is beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, field teams, vendors, and clients.
- Previous experience as an electrical estimator, project engineer, or similar role in commercial or industrial construction is preferred.
