Job Overview
The Director of Behavior Support Services will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the development and implementation of behavior support strategies for individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly focusing on adults and those on the autism spectrum. This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals supported through effective behavioral interventions and support services. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that all services are delivered in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Duties
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior support plans for clients, ensuring they are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and assessments to identify behavioral challenges and formulate effective intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with families, staff, and other professionals to provide training and support regarding behavioral strategies and interventions.
- Enhance the lives of people to include assuring the protection from abuse or neglect; promoting positive self-esteem; developing communication and relationship skills; encouraging and enhancing personal decision-making, maintaining communication with family and friends; and assisting consumers in enhancing their relationships with family and/or personal friends.
- Collect and analyze data related to client progress, modifying behavior plans as necessary based on findings.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, maintaining confidentiality in all medical documentation and records.
- Provide oversight for intake processes, ensuring thorough assessments are conducted for new clients.
- Stay current with developments in behavioral health practices and applied behavior analysis to inform service delivery.
- Lead a team of behavior support specialists, providing guidance, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
Skills
- Proficiency in behavioral therapy techniques and applied behavior analysis methodologies.
- Experience working with adults and individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism.
- Strong background in data collection methods relevant to behavioral health outcomes.
- Knowledge of special education laws and practices as they pertain to individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, patient care protocols, patient assessment techniques, and medical documentation standards.
- Ability to conduct intake assessments effectively while ensuring a compassionate approach towards individuals supported and their families.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders including individuals supported, families, staff members, and external partners. This role is essential in fostering an environment where individuals can thrive through tailored behavior support services that respect their dignity and promote their independence consistent with the principles of Everyday Lives.
