JOB SUMMARY
As part of our recent growth, we are seeking an experienced Sander to join our team. The ideal candidate will work from a job schedule, retrieve staged jobs for sandblasting, complete required paperwork, and deliver finished work to the appropriate areas upon completion. The Sander is also responsible for light maintenance and upkeep of the blasting machine. This role requires the ability to follow manufacturing instructions as outlined in work orders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and prepare blast cabinets by loading the appropriate type and quantity of abrasive material.
- Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and specifications to determine blasting requirements and processing methods.
- Operate, monitor, and adjust blasting equipment as needed, recording operational data to ensure quality and production standards are met.
- Position workpieces within blast cabinets to maximize productivity and processing efficiency.
- Inspect completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges, surface damage, or other nonconformities, and sort defective parts according to the type of flaw.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication of machines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following established safety procedures and identifying and correcting potential hazards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of or experience working in an inclusive workplace, particularly with individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical processes and techniques, with the ability to identify potential issues related to machinery, parts, or production processes.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, to support daily work activities.
- Ability to recognize hazardous materials and unsafe working conditions and apply appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify, organize, estimate, and recognize similarities and differences in materials, processes, and products.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, processes, and work environments.
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and remain calm and effective in stressful situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact effectively with individuals of diverse personalities and communication styles.

- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English through verbal communication, American Sign Language, or adaptive technology

SALARY DESCRIPTION
Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Skills Inc. is a self-supporting social enterprise organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We have three lines of business: Aerospace Manufacturing, Aerospace Finishing, and Business Solutions, which operate in 2 locations. Skills Inc. employs over 250 people, and our social mission is to train, employ, and serve persons with disabilities. We accomplish our mission in three ways: direct hire, vocational programs and services, and serving as a resource to the community.
Salary Range: $18.00 - $25.00
- 2nd shift is eligible for a $1.25 shift differential*
