What are the responsibilities and job description for the Job Coach/Direct Support Professional for Individuals with Disabilities position at SKILLS, Inc.?
The Job Coach/Direct Support Professional works directly with individuals with disabilities who are currently employed. They will support the individual through a variety of techniques to learn the skills necessary to maintain employment and work toward advancement in a Community Integrated Employment setting.
The Job Coach/Direct Support Professional works with employees and employers to promote job retention, professional development, and advancement. Key competencies include excellent oral and written communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-through, coaching, and the ability to network with a diverse employer population.
The Job Coach will:
Use task analysis to identify and provide services and supports that assist the individual in maintaining CIE.
Implement best practice techniques to implement Job Fading to reduce the amount of external support necessary.
Work with employers to build co-worker support, to further minimize external support.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience supporting Adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities.
- DSP Certification or ability to become certified, including Job Coaching Modules under the College of Direct Supports.
- Consistent and reliable work history
- Proficient in computer usage including Email, spreadsheets and data entry
- Valid Maine driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, including up to or exceeding 2 hours per shift.
This is a part-time position with a competitive wage. Benefits available for an employee that chooses to add per diem hours in alternate programs totaling no less than 30 hours per week combined. The Job Coach/Direct Support Professional reports to the Employment Services Manager.
