What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced RBT Needed (After School Hours) position at Skillbridge Services LLC?
We are urgently hiring an experienced RBT for a long-term in-home ABA case with an older elementary-aged client. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with highly verbal, bright kids and prefers naturalistic, functional ABA over spending most of the session at a table.
We are looking for someone who can begin the onboarding process immediately.
Start Date & Transition
Our current therapist will be leaving the case on October 21, and we would like the new therapist to have time to learn the case and gradually transition into the full schedule before then.
Ideally, you will be able to:
- Complete paid onboarding by October 4
- Shadow the current therapist early next week
- Begin taking on sessions gradually during the following two weeks
- Assume the full 16-hour-per-week schedule beginning October 21
This transition period will give you an opportunity to get to know the client, observe current programming and routines, and begin working with him while the current therapist is still available.
Schedule
Once fully transitioned, the position is approximately 16 hours per week, with either of the following options:
- Monday–Friday, approximately 5:00–8:00 PM, or
- Four weekdays, approximately 5:00–8:00 PM one 4-hour Saturday session
There is some flexibility in scheduling, and some sessions may include community outings in addition to work in the home.
Why Work With Us?
We are a small ABA provider, which allows us to offer a more personal and collaborative working environment than you may find at a larger agency.
Benefits include:
- Starting pay of $25 /hour, depending on experience
- $200 Christmas bonus
- Paid time off (PTO)
- Paid sick leave
- Free BCBA supervision for eligible student analysts accruing fieldwork hours
- Some flexibility in scheduling
- Remote BCBA supervision and ongoing clinical support
- Naturalistic programming with room for therapist creativity and clinical judgment
Client Profile
The client is an older elementary-aged student who is highly verbal, intelligent, curious, and socially engaged. Programming focuses on practical skills that increase independence at home and in the community, including:
- Self-management and emotional regulation
- Executive functioning, planning, and time management
- Problem-solving and flexible thinking
- Daily living skills and household responsibilities
- Social communication and perspective-taking
- Independence with everyday routines
Sessions may involve cooking, games, projects, chores, planning activities, community outings, technology, sports, and other naturally occurring opportunities to practice skills.
This is not primarily a table-work case.
Therapist Profile
This is a challenging case, but not because of highly intense or dangerous behavior. The challenge is that the client is highly verbal, intelligent, quick, and capable of debating, negotiating, questioning, and finding holes in what adults say.
The strongest fit will be someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys interacting with older verbal children
- Is playful and creative while maintaining appropriate expectations
- Can teach through real activities rather than relying on worksheets or table work
- Thinks quickly and recognizes teaching opportunities as they occur
- Can handle debating and negotiating without getting pulled into power struggles
- Can distinguish appropriate self-advocacy from avoidance
- Is comfortable with self-management and natural reinforcement
- Notices when something isn't working and communicates with the BCBA
BCBA supervision is remote, so the therapist must be comfortable working independently between supervision meetings. You should be able to identify programming concerns, unusual behavior patterns, barriers to progress, or situations where you need additional clinical guidance.
Just as importantly, we are looking for someone who can recognize when they themselves are becoming overwhelmed, frustrated, unsure, or stuck and communicate that to the BCBA early rather than allowing the situation to build.
Requirements: current RBT and CPR certifications and a TB test are needed (can be completed immediately upon hire and will be reimbursed)
To Apply
Please email your resume along with brief answers to the following three questions to verboaba@gmail.com :
1. Tell me about your experience working with highly verbal, academically or cognitively strong autistic children. What did you enjoy most about that type of case, and what did you find most challenging?
2. Imagine you and the client are baking cookies together. Give me a few examples of how you could naturally incorporate goals such as self-management, executive functioning, problem-solving, or independence into the activity without turning it into a formal lesson or creating unnecessary demands.
3. Imagine you tell the client that something needs to be done a certain way, and he immediately begins explaining why he believes his way is correct and tries to negotiate with you. Give me a specific example of how you would respond. How would you decide whether to hear out the argument, compromise, redirect, or hold the original expectation?
Please also include your current RBT status, relevant experience, general availability, and earliest possible start date.
Because we are hiring urgently, please only apply if you are able to complete onboarding by October 4 and begin shadowing/transitioning onto the case early next week.
