What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Pathway Instructor - Independent Contractor position at SKILCO?
SKILCO is seeking an experienced construction professional to serve as the Construction Pathway Instructor for our first NCCER Core pilot cohort in Clarksville, Tennessee.
This is a defined independent-contractor engagement supporting a small cohort of four youth. The pilot includes approximately ten in-person meetings held every other week over about five months, along with assigned NCCER coursework between meetings.
The instructor will:
- Prepare and deliver approved NCCER Core content.
- Lead demonstrations, supervised practice, and technical safety.
- Support required knowledge assessments and in-person performance evaluations.
- Record attendance, participation, assessment results, makeup needs, and completion risks.
- Coordinate with SKILCO’s Program Manager and screened mentor.
- Follow SKILCO’s youth-safety, communication, privacy, incident-reporting, and documentation requirements.
Minimum qualifications:
- At least five years of verifiable construction or skilled-trades experience relevant to NCCER Core content, as required by ABC/NCCER.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to beginners and safely manage a small youth learning environment.
- Ability to commit to the full pilot schedule and associated preparation, evaluation, and documentation responsibilities.
- Willingness to complete the required ABC/NCCER instructor approval or training pathway.
- Willingness to complete SKILCO’s qualification, reference, background-screening, youth-safety, and onboarding requirements.
- Reliable communication and accurate recordkeeping.
Prior NCCER instructor, proctor, performance-evaluator, craft, OSHA, apprenticeship, CTE, or youth-training experience is preferred but not required beyond the applicable ABC/NCCER requirements.
The selected instructor will retain professional judgment over instructional methods while complying with the approved NCCER curriculum, agreed schedule and outcomes, youth-safety requirements, site rules, and documentation obligations. Compensation will be negotiated and documented in the final independent-contractor agreement.
