What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Contractor - Mathematical Systems Validation position at SKEPIS?
Overview
We are looking for an independent contractor to conduct rigorous reviews of structured mathematical system models against provided source documentation, produce fully annotated deliverables with supporting citations, and provide corrected specifications where discrepancies are identified.
What the Work Involves
You will receive a structured mathematical model derived from provided technical documents. The model defines state variables, governing equations, and operating parameters. Your responsibility is to review every element of that model against the underlying source material and produce a fully annotated deliverable in which each model element is supported by a citation to the specific source passage that confirms or contradicts it.
Where a model element is accurate, you will cite the supporting passage. Where a discrepancy exists, you will document the nature of the error, provide the corrected specification, and explain your reasoning clearly enough for a technically informed reviewer to follow. No element may be confirmed or flagged without a corresponding source citation, and partial or uncited deliverables will not be accepted.
This work requires independent expert judgment applied directly to the materials provided. The use of generative AI tools, large language models, cloud-based computational services, or any networked third-party analysis platform to produce or assist in producing the review is strictly prohibited. All analysis must be performed by the contractor personally using local, non-networked tools. This requirement will be reflected in the engagement agreement.
What We Need
A graduate-level background in dynamical systems, control theory, or applied mathematics is required. Demonstrated ability to evaluate mathematical system models against technical source documentation is essential. Experience with high-assurance software in regulated industries is strongly preferred.
Structure
Engagements are offered on a per-case basis at a fixed fee commensurate with senior consulting rates. Scope and complexity will vary by engagement. An NDA is required before the first engagement begins.
To Apply
- Describe your background in dynamical systems or applied mathematics and any experience reviewing mathematical models against technical source documents.
- Describe a specific instance in which you reviewed a mathematical model of a physical or biological system against its underlying technical documentation and identified an element that was incorrectly specified. Include what type of system it was, what the source document described, what the model stated, and what correction you provided. Identifying details are not required and should be omitted if subject to confidentiality obligations.
- Include a current resume or CV alongside your written response. The written example will be weighted more heavily than credentials in the initial review.
