Job Summary

The Employee and Labor Relations Specialist has a high emphasis on employee and labor relations in an organization with a focus on just culture. This includes workplace investigations, administration of union contracts, contractual/legal/organizational policy interpretation, grievances, and management of the organization’s union partner relationships. Assists leaders and employees on a variety of human resource issues. Coaches and counsels leadership on human resource matters in support of organizational objectives, employee engagement and performance management, while managing risk. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and to assist leaders in the changing business paradigm. Essential Functions

• Provides guidance and counsel to employees regarding human resources, organizational policy and union contract matters. • Serves as primary leadership contact for interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, labor laws and organizational policy. • Conducts workplace investigations and partners with leadership on appropriately addressing concerns. • Serves as primary organizational liaison with union partners. • Partners with human resources and other organizational leadership to propose and implement changes for organizational improvement and/or to mitigate risk. • Partners with other Labor Relations Specialists and HR leadership to ensure consistent application and implementation of HR strategies, policies and programs. • Maintains applicable metrics for routine presentation (e.g. monthly, quarterly, etc.). • Assists with other human resources department functions, supporting department objectives and ensuring human resources services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner. • Adheres to all SRH and department/location specific policies and procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned.




Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations or related field preferred. Equivalent education and experience in healthcare may be substituted. Master's degree preferred.




Experience/Training

4 years of progressive experience in employee relations, labor relations and/or generalist roles. Demonstrated experience managing complex employee/labor relations matters including investigations, corrective action and legal issues. Union experience strongly preferred. Healthcare experience strongly preferred.




License/Certifications

SPHR/PHR preferred.




Other Skills

Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to human resources and labor relations. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work effectively and under pressure and within time constraints. Ability to maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety and diversity of organizational stakeholders. Ability to organize, plan and prioritize multiple complex tasks while maintaining quality and completing objectives on time. Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a myriad of settings. Must have exceptional critical thinking skills, empathy, good judgment and be a mindful listener.




Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
