Job Summary

The role of Administrative Supervisor Respiratory Therapy - Vascular Access is one of significant importance to ensure coordinated, high-quality and cost-effective care at all times. The Administrative Supervisor Respiratory Therapy - Vascular Access works closely in collaboration with clinical and support departments including Imaging, IV Therapy, Acute Care, ED, and CCU. This role will be acting as a key representative of departmental and organizational leaders to facilitate ongoing operations designed to achieve specific goals and targets at all times. Communication, information sharing and understanding, and connectedness are critical for successful operations and performance. This person will work in collaboration with both internal and external providers to meet the clinical needs of their patient populations while upholding the specific quality assessment improvement needs. Essential Functions

Coordinates Respiratory Therapy, Cardiopulmonary, and Vascular Access resources and RT staffing, appropriate to the care environment. Prioritizes and manages workload in an environment where the nature and volume of calls is unpredictable. Oversees the staffing of the department to determine staffing requirements and resource allocation within a framework of patient safety. Provides clinical support as needed and as appropriate. Evaluates patient conditions and departmental needs with lead Respiratory Therapists. Reports pertinent information to the Respiratory Director in an accurate and timely manner. Assists the Respiratory Therapy Regional Director in developing creative ways to deal with challenging situations. Communicates with department heads regarding Respiratory Therapy - Vascular Access, challenges and collaborates with others in the development of solutions. Consistently identifies and implements cost-effective ways to staff, and allocate resources. Strives to achieve high quality, low cost patient care solutions, working with SRH Leadership to meet financial performance goals. Acts as a role model to create an environment of excellence and “being the best”. Consistently demonstrates strong customer focused approach in all situations. Serves as liaison and clinical resource to staff, Physicians, and others throughout hospital, relative to the care of Respiratory Therapy and Vascular Access patients. Promotes a professional environment; promotes professionalism for all staff as s/he leads by example. Provides processes for conflict resolution with all customers. Demonstrates leadership and excellent communication to maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, managers and directors. Demonstrates a working knowledge of current theory and standards of care, structure standards and procedures related to Respiratory Therapy and Vascular Access procedures. Directs administrative problems to appropriate sources, after hours. Responds to and assists in code situations. Follows medical staff chain of command when appropriate. Coordinates projects as needed under the direction of SRH Leadership including contributing to the achievement of Quality Improvement through QI activities and patient satisfaction benchmarks. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. The Administrative Supervisor Respiratory Therapy may perform specific supervisory duties at the express direction of the Administrative Supervisor’s leader. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures and ensures all departmental policies and procedures are maintained to program compliance needs. Performs other duties as assigned by designee.




Education

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. BS RRT or related field or a combination of education and/or equivalent experience specifically relevant to the primary accountabilities of the position required.




Experience/Training

Minimum of two years’ experience in an Acute Care hospital preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability and previous Respiratory Therapy Lead or supervisory experience preferred.




License/Certifications

Current Washington State Respiratory Care Licensure required. Active NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential, (American Heart Association) BLS, ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire. PALS for current employees by 6/30/2024. VABC certification is encouraged.

Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, nursing personnel, and other health care professionals.




Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
