Summary
The Paraeducator supports students by working closely under the direction of a certified special education teacher. They assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), adapting classroom activities, managing behavior, and helping students with academic, social, emotional, and physical needs.
Responsibilities
- Help the teacher plan lessons and prepare classroom materials
- Support students one-on-one or in small groups with learning, behavior, and physical needs
- Assist in the supervision of children during recess and free play
- Work and communicate professionally with students, families, and coworkers in a diverse environment.
- Actively Participate in team meetings
- Follow all safety procedures to help keep students and coworkers safe at all times.
- Help keep the classroom clean and organized and well maintained
- Assist children in toileting, dressing, and mealtime
- Maintain confidentiality according to HIPPA and FRPA regulations
- Attend and participate in a;; required staff training days.
- Pay close attention when observing students and carefully complete all required paperwork.
- Follow written and spoken directions; work independently when needed
- Ability to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment and tact in performance of duties
- Comply with all SPARC policies and procedures
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned work site and regularly work hours specified under contract
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Expressed interest or previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and families
