On Site Location: Bulverde, TX
PRIMARY FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILTY
Ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall maintenance of buildings and facilities.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and repair physical plant (indoor and outdoor to include buildings, vehicles, and grounds) under the direction of assigned leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming floors/carpets and floors in all shared spaces: Harvey Najim Educational Building (school and cafeteria), Administrative Offices, Health Center Offices, Community Hall, and the Chapel.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures.
- At least weekly checks cottages (Harvey, A-Wing, B-Wing, Verette, and Hall House bathrooms for mold, mildew, and hard water stains in toilet bowls.
- Empty trash cans and dispose of waste appropriately daily.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors in all buildings as listed above.
- Maintain cleanliness of office desks, chairs, and other furniture.
- Ensure corridors, stairways, and elevators are clean and presentable. Power washes sidewalks as necessary.
- Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in restrooms and kitchens.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
- Establish and maintain communication between administrative staff and program staff.
- Conduct weekly inspections of organization’s buildings, grounds, and vehicles.
- Report any work hazards.
- Responsible for upkeep of grounds to include all flowerbeds.
- Operates machinery as required to perform work functions.
- Assists with delivery and moving of furniture as needed.
- Assists with unloading food truck as needed and storing of supplies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification.
- Proven experience as a janitor, custodian, or in a similar role is preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems for minor repairs and maintenance.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, ability to provide own transportation and proof of current automobile insurance.
- CPR/First Aid Certification; course and certification provided by employer.
- Age minimum of 21 years of age per licensing standards.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, and walk.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 75 pounds unassisted and up to 120 pounds or more with assistance.
- Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to give and receive verbal and written instructions (with or without hearing aids).
- Must have fine vision, sustained vision, and peripheral vision (with or without glasses).
- Environment requires dexterity to remain calm and adapt to fast paced and emotional environments consisting of children with moderate to severe emotional and psychological needs.
- Office/Outdoor settings with varying moderate to high degrees of background noise.
- Light and ventilation are found in a typical home setting.
- Campuses are smoke-free, except on permitted campuses in designated areas.
- Possible injury when lifting or moving if employee fails to use proper body mechanics, or if proper techniques are not used.
- Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and equipment. Proper protective clothing and gear to include gloves, masks, and eye guards are required as needed. Further training on use of chemicals may be required.
