JOB SUMMARY
Sizer School, a North Central Charter Essential School, is seeking a School Counselor dedicated to student success to join our Student Services team. The Counselor supports the academic success and educational goals of students in grades 7-12. The Counselor serves as an advocate, liaison, coordinator, case manager, and consultant for students, parents, school staff and community agency personnel. The Counselor works extensively with the Principal to oversee and manage the college and career programs and initiatives at the school. These include but are not limited to Early College High School, independent studies, and internships. The Counselor must have a love of working with students to plan their program of study and futures and believe that all students can succeed in achieving their goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to)
•Provides evidence-based academic counseling services for students in support of academic, social, emotional and behavioral growth.
•Leads and/or participates in various student/teacher/family conferences, including student concerns meetings, re-entry meetings, and Special Education Team meetings.
•Provides academic, career, post-secondary, and college counseling.
•Establishes, supports, and grows relationships with collegiate, career, and community partners.
•Develops and maintains a college and career curriculum to serve the needs of students.
•Supports early college students throughout the college enrollment cycle.
•Assists students with selecting and registering for courses.
•Monitors, encourages, and tracks student progress toward college and career planning and readiness.
•Contributes to maximizing student success through academic supports, mentoring, and regular collaboration with school staff regarding student progress.
•Provides student and family supports to promote college and career attainment and success to include support with completing the FAFSA.
•Schedules and supervises postsecondary tours, field trips, and career fairs for students.
•Schedules workshops, presentations, and speakers for college and career awareness.
•Collaborates with high school and college staff to ensure smooth student transitions to postsecondary educational opportunities.
•Maintains accuracy in data collection, reporting, and database management.
•Utilizes highly-effective strategies and tools to encourage students to plan college and career goals and outcomes.
•Assists students in identifying best fit for postsecondary educational opportunities and/or career placement.
•Assists students in college scholarship and financial aid applications.
•Coordinates postsecondary preparation testing for students.
•Organizes and monitors internship opportunities aligned with student career goals.
•Monitors grade-level and graduation promotion requirements.
•Counsels students and monitors their preparation of materials related to the pursuit of post-secondary opportunities, including college applications, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and supplemental materials.
•Develops counseling curriculum for students in accordance with the MA Model 3.0: A Framework for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
•Builds and manages student schedules in response to various student needs, preferences, and requirements for promotion/graduation.
•In collaboration with the Principal, develops and maintains the master class schedule.
STUDENT SERVICES TEAM
•Partners with families to develop plans for responding to student needs.
•Maintains accurate records; collects and analyzes school counseling services data.
•Communicates and collaborates extensively with teachers, administrators, family members, external agencies, and other student allies as needed to promote student success.
•Regularly monitors student academic progress.
•Encourages and provides system support in response to the needs of students and the school community; supports the school-wide Advisory Program.
•Performs duties related to data collection and input (Rediker, Frontline, and other information systems).
•Maintains relationships with and acts as a liaison to outside agencies.
•Collaborates and consults on various grants that support student academic success.
•Other duties as assigned by the Principal; Regular in-person attendance
