What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Public Defender position at Sixth Circuit Public Defender?
The Sixth Circuit Public Defender’s Office is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Public Defender in our Lancaster, South Carolina office. The Sixth Circuit Public Defender’s Office represents indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in Lancaster, Chester, and Fairfield Counties in South Carolina.
This attorney will provide all aspects of representation of indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in General Sessions Court, Magistrate and Municipal Court, and/or juveniles charged in Family Court. As an attorney with our office, you will immediately work on significant cases and quickly gain substantial court room and jury trial experience.
The Sixth Circuit is conveniently located between Columbia and Rock Hill making for easy commuting. While most work would be completed in office, we do allow for some occasional work from home as necessary.
Candidates for this position must:
o Be a member of the South Carolina Bar in good standing
o Completion of 403 requirements preferred
o Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
o Possess proficient computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
o Be able to conduct legal research, analyze, and interpret legal opinions
Salary starts at $70,000 plus affordable quality health insurance and retirement benefits for currently licensed members of the SC Bar and is negotiable based on experience. Employment with our office qualifies for student loan forgiveness under the PSLF program. Attorneys can receive all annual CLE hours through attendance at the SC Public Defender Conference paid for by the office.
