Position Overview
Six Maritime is seeking experienced Able Bodied Seamen (AB) to support small craft and waterfront operations in a high-tempo maritime environment. The AB will support vessel operations, launch and recovery, line handling, deck evolutions, and general seamanship aboard government-operated and contractor-operated small boats.
This position supports U.S. Navy waterfront operations and requires demonstrated experience operating in high-speed and rough-water conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform deck operations aboard small craft, including line handling, mooring, anchoring, and towing support
- Assist with launch and recovery of small boats (pier-side, ramp, and trailer-based operations)
- Support high-speed and rough-water vessel operations
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of vessels and onboard equipment
- Support vessel towing, salvage, or rescue operations as required
- Maintain situational awareness and comply with all safety and operational procedures
- Assist boat captains and engineering personnel during operations and maintenance activities
- Comply with all Coast Guard, Navy, and site-specific safety and security requirements
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Able Seaman (AB) endorsement
- OR

- Boatswain's Mate

- Minimum of five (5) years experience working with small craft
- Demonstrated experience operating in high-speed and rough-water environments
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy lines and equipment
- Must be able to pass background checks and site access requirementsDesired Qualifications
- Experience with:
- Launch and recovery of small craft
- Towing operations
- Trailer operations using trucks or forklifts
- Prior military service (Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or allied maritime forces)
- Familiarity with Navy or DoD waterfront operations
- Current CPR / First Aid certification
Work Environment
- Maritime waterfront setting
- Exposure to weather, noise, and moving machinery
- Shift work may include nights, weekends, and holidays
Pay: $ $35.00 per hour
