What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometric Assistant (Training Provided) position at SITTERLE VISION SOURCE?
Okay, so we’re biased - but we think we’re a pretty cool place to work. Our private practice optometry office is a small business located on the North East Side of San Antonio and we really believe that we are impacting the world by bringing vision to our community.
We’re also big believers in honesty and guiding our staff and patients to choose the best path for themselves, so we’re going to tell you up front, the job isn’t perfect — there’s good and bad to every position but hear us out. (See Bold and underlined parts of ad for the quick version)
What we’re looking for -
We are looking for a good, fun person, who gets shit done. (We don't curse a lot but when we do we mean it). Someone who loves working but knows there is more to life and brings both that effort and empathy to our patients and team. What we don’t expect is perfection or existing skills for you to qualify for this job. We can teach you that. We’ll train you on everything you don't know but we expect intelligence, energy, and a get it done attitude. You need to be the type of person who gets joy out of accomplishing tasks and gets strength out of finding solutions. Every day, you will bang out a list of stuff. Some fun stuff, some not so fun, but all important stuff. Necessary stuff. You’ll interact with patients, so you need to enjoy talking with people and giving/getting direction.
What we’re offering -
- The Money - Everyone wants to know about this part (We don’t blame you - who wouldn’t). We start everyone at $12/hour (with quick easy room to grow - we’re talking a week or two) but we do it for a reason. We want to see skin in the game. We know money is important, but we also want to hire competent people who enjoy what they do and come to work everyday for more than just the money (like we all do). Our staff all know we do this and it protects their best interest. When you become a longtime member of the team, you will appreciate knowing that everyone starts at the entry level but has the opportunity to grow based on their energy and effort. (PS. Benefits also included/available after 60 days)
- It’s easy to get a Raise - Because we start off at $12/hour we make it easy to move up. We have developed a 1-2 week training system with a checklist of all duties that need to be performed and we provide you with a mentor staff member to train you on them. Once you have completed the checklist, you will get an automatic bump in pay reflecting your effort and ability.
- The Bonuses - Did we mention there is a bonus system that everyone gets to participate in? Well, there is. We set a goal for the office that gives everyone something to work toward (It’s fun and we hit it most of the time).
- The Work - We’ll train you on everything so don’t worry too much about that. It’s your office basics like answering phones and emails, placing orders, greeting patients, filing paperwork and working-up patients. It is an in office job (not virtual) you have to show up and be on time. You also have to like working with people - yes the nice ones and not so nice ones. We love our patients but we’re not going to lie, some can test our strength and we are looking for someone who is energized by these types of interactions - you know, someone who likes finding solutions for less than impressed customers and gets joy out of turning these types of situations around.
- The Hours - We are looking for full-time but we can make a solid part-timer work. There are certain times we need you to be here, but we try to be as flexible as possible. We don’t typically limit time off (unless it gets to be a bad habit) and we will work with your schedule to get a routine that works for you
- The Team - we’re a fun, rag-tag group, just like the Avengers. We all have our strengths and use them together for good. We expect everyone to work hard, but we try not to take life too seriously most of the time. We like to do group costumes for Halloween, gift exchanges for basically every holiday, we have Christmas parties and summer parties and baby showers and “because the doctor wants to go to Top Golf” parties. We even took everyone on a cruise because we felt like it- twice! Everyone stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean together - we must like each other alright.
In short, your job is to help the doctors, team and patients in any way you can. And to have fun at work (who wants a job that isn’t fun?!). Our office is casual, but we do expect professionalism and punctuality.
If this is a job that gets you so excited that you would even do it for free, we would totally accept that offer, but if you prefer compensation (and we totally get it) please apply, we are excited to hear from you!
In fact, if you read this far, in addition to applying, please email me at Kevin.acosta@visionsource-Sitterle.com with the subject line “Best Job Ad Ever.” This lets me know you’re actually interested in working here and believe in what we have to offer.
We are looking to bring our new colleague on board as soon as possible, but we will spend the necessary time to find the best fit both in abilities and culturally.
We can’t wait to meet you.
