Job Summary:

Join us as a Transportation Driver, where you’ll safely transport passengers, including those with mobility needs, to appointments and other destinations. This role offers hands-on experience in vehicle operation, maintenance, and providing compassionate customer service.

    

What We are Looking For:

  • Must be age 21 or over
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–2 years driving, chauffeur, shuttle, or related experience preferred
  • Knowledge of vehicles, maintenance, and diagnostic analysis
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Familiarity with city and local area roads
  • Knowledge of traffic and safety rules
  • Must hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license (not a learner’s permit or provisional / intermediate license)
  • Must have an excellent driving record and be fully insurable
  • Previous experience assisting and transporting individuals who use wheelchairs is a plus


Hours and Schedule:


  • Part-time "PRN" position; up to 10-15 hours per week
  • Some evenings and weekends
  • Schedule is announced and varies weekly

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Performs basic vehicle maintenance and diagnostic analysis.
  • Drive a passenger car, handicap ramp van, and a 15-passenger bus.
  • Ability to remain calm with passengers and properly operate the vehicle under a variety of road and weather conditions.
  • Transports passengers to various locations, choosing the best route, and making predetermined departure and arrival times.
  • Assists passengers, and wheelchair-bound residents, in entering and exiting vehicles and buildings, both locally and in the metro area.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, passengers, SCL staff, physician’s office staff and the public.
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality especially regarding Sisters’ medical/physical matters.
  • Provide focus and attention while driving to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to vehicles.
  • Maintains daily records of passengers, destinations, time and mileage.
  • Prepare reports of any driving incidents or hazards.
  • Checks and schedules maintenance of, and washing and cleaning, vehicles and garages.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years driving, chauffeur, taxi, bus, shuttle or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of vehicles, maintenance and diagnostic analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of city and local area roads.
  • Knowledge of traffic and safety rules.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record and be fully insurable.
  • Previous experience assisting and transporting individuals who use a wheelchair is a plus.


Physical Requirements:

  • Job requires the ability to walk, stand, sit, ride, twist, grasp, pull, bend, stoop, reach, and climb as needed.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to push objects weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Must have sufficient eye-hand-foot coordination to safely assist passengers and operate wheelchair lifts and securement systems.

           Working Environment:

  • Work will take place outdoors, in a vehicle, and in office settings.
  • Some tasks may involve exposure to fumes, odors, fuels, or other chemicals that could cause irritation or burns.
  • Work will involve exposure to a wide range of temperatures, including extreme heat in summer and extreme cold in winter.
