Joseph & Mary's Home (JMH), a Ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System is recruiting for a full-time Assistant Director (AD). The Assistant Director serves as the senior operational leader of JMH. Working in partnership with the Executive Director, the Assistant Director oversees organizational operations, staffing, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance to ensure the organization operates efficiently while delivering safe, high-quality medical respite services for adults experiencing homelessness.

Position Summary

As the Executive Director's primary operational partner, this position develops and refines the systems, processes, and accountability measures that strengthen organizational performance, support staff, and advance JMH's mission and long-term sustainability.

Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to the Executive Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides direct supervision to designated operational and residential staff and organizational leadership across administrative and interdisciplinary teams.

Essential Responsibilities

Operations

The AD leads the organization's operational infrastructure, ensuring efficient administrative systems and organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day business operations across Joseph's Home and Mary's Home.
  • Develop and improve operational policies, workflows, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Sisters of Charity Health System on facilities, technology, security, capital improvements, and operational planning.
  • Manage vendor relationships, purchasing, inventory, maintenance, contracts, and operational resources.
  • Monitor operational expenditures, identify efficiencies, and support budget management with Finance.
  • Oversee administrative systems, records management, organizational communications, and document retention.
  • Ensure compliance with SCHS policies, licensing requirements, insurance standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, facility safety, risk management, and business continuity planning.
  • Support implementation of strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.


Staffing

The AD provides leadership for workforce planning, supervision, and staff development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise Residential Support Assistants and other designated staff.
  • Oversee staffing schedules, contractor utilization, vacancy management, and contingency planning to maintain 24/7 operations.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, and corrective action when appropriate.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs, succession planning, and workforce development opportunities.
  • Provide operational leadership during emergencies and other critical staffing situations.


Performance Improvement, Quality Assurance & Compliance

The AD leads JMH's Performance Improvement (PI) and Quality Assurance (QA) program to strengthen organizational performance and ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, monitor, and report organizational performance measures, quality indicators, and operational dashboards.
  • Conduct audits of resident records, HMIS, InSync documentation, incident reports, and operational processes.
  • Ensure compliance with CARF standards, State of Ohio regulations, HMIS requirements, HIPAA, SCHS policies, and organizational procedures.
  • Coordinate accreditation activities, state monitoring visits, grant reviews, and external audits.
  • Develop and monitor corrective action plans and evaluate organizational performance trends.
  • Partner with staff to improve documentation, workflow consistency, and service quality.
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement, accountability, and data-informed decision-making.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, medical respite, homelessness services, housing, or another complex human service setting.
  • Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams and leading organizational operations.
  • Demonstrated success in operational management, quality improvement, and workforce leadership.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Asana, HMIS, electronic health records, and organizational reporting systems.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license.


Preferred

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with CARF accreditation, HMIS, and State of Ohio regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading accreditation, audits, or continuous quality improvement initiatives.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout residential and administrative facilities.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and operational issues.


Salary: $80,000-$90,000 annually
