Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate all aspects of design (aesthetics, function, user interface, manufacturability, lifecycle).
- Develop tools to better characterize, design, and understand components and systems for the purpose of continuously improving quality.
- Drive product development to produce new designs and solutions to problems.
- Design component and assembly concepts. Identify cost reduction and product improvement opportunities.
- Design and develop lighting fixtures, components, and accessories.
- Create 3D models of new mechanical components and assemblies.
- Complete mechanical engineering analyses of components and assemblies.
- Source prototype components using our 3D printers, internal and external machine shops, and nearby vendors.
- Assemble functional and aesthetically accurate prototypes.
- Conduct effective design reviews to share your work and gather feedback for alternatives and improvements.
- Work closely with our purchasing team and vendors to source and qualify production tooling.
- Collaborate with team members to introduce new products/components.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and customer issues.
- Apply your experiences in order to improve the product development lifecycle and quality assurance processes.
- Duties may change and associates may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications:
- 5 years of progressive job experience is required (Bachelor’s / Master’s in Mechanical Engineering is a PLUS).
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
- Familiarity and hands-on experience with various manufacturing processes including injection molding, stamping, extrusion, thermoforming, and machining.
- Understand of SMT technologies.
- Experience with SMT equipment and operations is a PLUS.
- Experience with PCB layouts is a PLUS
- Experience with IC-level design is a PLUS.
- Experience with 3D modeling hardware and software (SolidWorks, CAD is a PLUS).
- Experience is lighting hardware and design is a PLUS.
- Experience with DMX512 protocol is a PLUS.
- Skillful at solving problems with enthusiasm, creativity, and resilience.
- Willingness to take initiative and solve problems in a fast-paced work environment.
- Desire to work on a variety of tasks to solve difficult technical problems.
- Excellent organization, communication, follow-through and execution.
