What are the responsibilities and job description for the Value Chain Coordinator position at Sirna & Sons Produce?
Position Summary
The Value Chain Coordinator (VCC) is a role at Sirna & Sons, established in partnership with Feed Our Future and supported by a USDA Project SCALES grant. The VCC will serve as the primary connector between Ohio's local food producers and K-12 school district buyers, working across Sirna's sourcing, sales, and logistics teams to grow the volume and consistency of locally sourced food delivered to schools.
The VCC sits at the intersection of procurement and sales — building and sustaining relationships with local farmers, facilitating demand planning and production coordination, ensuring compliance with school nutrition program procurement requirements, and actively matching local supply to school district demand. This role is critical to Sirna's ability to scale its local food program and fulfill its commitments under the OSC cooperative purchasing bid. This role will be a hybrid role in some capacity between outside sales duties as well as internal procurement functions.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in food procurement, supply chain coordination, food hub operations, farm-to-institution sales, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with farmers, food buyers, and/or institutional customers
- Familiarity with local and regional food systems, seasonal produce availability, and the operational realities of small-to-mid-scale Ohio producers
- Strong organizational and data management skills; high attention to detail across multiple concurrent supplier and customer relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new ordering, inventory, or ERP platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate between the language of farming and the language of institutional procurement
- Valid Ohio driver's license and ability to travel within Northeast Ohio for supplier visits and school district meetings
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of K-12 school food procurement processes, including competitive bidding, cooperative purchasing agreements, and USDA Child Nutrition Program compliance requirements (Buy American Provision, geographic preference)
- Prior experience working with or for a wholesale food distributor, food hub, or produce company
- Familiarity with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification processes and food safety documentation requirements for institutional supply chains
- Experience using ERP or order management systems such as Produce Pro, NetSuite, or AirTable
- Track record of facilitating multi-stakeholder coordination — bringing together producers, buyers, and operations staff around shared goals
- Experience working with diverse producer communities, including BIPOC-owned farms, small acreage producers, and specialty crop growers
