What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Guest Experience Associate position at Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium?
The Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium welcomes applicants for our Guest Experience Associate at the Butterfly House & Aquarium. Our Guest Experience Associates provide the first and last impression for the guests of the Butterfly House & Aquarium. Associates work in the admissions and gift shop area: serving guests when they purchase admission and memberships, as well as gift shop items. In addition, Associates will assist with facility cleanliness, perform daily operations, and serve as interpreters in the butterfly & aquarium exhibits as needed. This position will need to be available Sunday - Saturday, 9a-4:30p.
Essential Functions:
- Greet and interact with guests with enthusiasm and patience
- Sell admission tickets, memberships, and process memberships
- Answer guests’ questions about the facility and the community of Sioux Falls
- Sell gift shop items and prepare gift shop merchandise for sale
- General facility cleaning: restrooms and high-touch areas
- Open and close registers and admission/gift shop computers for business, complete daily paperwork, and balance cash drawers throughout the shift
- Open and close common areas of the facility (Discovery Den, Education Displays/Signage throughout building, etc.)
- Uphold the USDA guidelines for the facility
- Supervise guests with interactive exhibits and exhibit guidelines
- Other duties as assigned

Work Environment
- Work may include passing through the Conservatory, which is typically 85 degrees with high humidity year-round.
Physical Demands
- This position requires the ability to stand for multiple hours at a time, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach; and to be able to open and close doors.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone), at normal speaking levels.
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
- Hand and finger dexterity sufficient for typing and other administrative tasks.
- The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 1 year in Customer Service preferred
