Job Description KOMO/KUNS are seeking a detail oriented, aggressive, energetic, and creative full-time News Assignment Editor!Core ResponsibilitiesCoordinate daily editorial planning across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.Monitor breaking news andtrending topics to identify coverage opportunities.Ensure consistency and accuracy of information distributed across all platforms.Work closely with digital, broadcast, and social team to adapt stories appropriately for each channel.Maintain communication with field crews, assignment editors, producers, and managers throughout the day.Vet and verify information from scanners, social media, and community sources.Liaise with external partners (public information officers, agencies, community leaders, networks, other stations, and freelancers).Oversee logistics such as crew scheduling, equipment deployment, and live coverage coordination.Contribute editorial judgment during breaking news and high-pressure situations.Uphold ethical standards, legal requirements, and organizational editorial policies.Perform website updates in breaking news situationsRequirementsBachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or related field (or equivalent work experience).Strong multiplatform editorial skills, including understanding of broadcast, digital newswriting, and social media best practices.Exceptional news judgment and the ability to prioritize in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment.Proficiency with newsroom tools, such as iNews, analytics dashboards, and social media monitoring tools.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to multitask across multiple storylines, teams, and technology platforms.Strong fact-checking and verification skills with understanding of journalistic ethics.Comfort with breaking news workflows, including managing live shots, field crews, and rapid updates.EEO AND INCLUSIVITY:Sinclair is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and a drug free workplace. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
